A complex project involving refurbishment of a retained building of local interest and new build elements with a scheme value of £25million requiring a multi-discipline approach. Farrow Walsh acted as retained consultant to the Client and were novated consultants to the design and build contractor for this on-going project.
Previously a private residence with landscaped Victorian water gardens, the main building was used as a hospital during the First World War and holds significant historical and local interest. The site was difficult due to the sloping terrain, proximity to a main river and the blanket tree preservation orders.
Plus working adjacent to a SSSI, SANG and SINC provided significant constraints on the design for this project. The resulting 3-D surface model was incorporated into the 3-D building model providing virtual tours for planners and purchasers.
The project featured multiple retaining walls, extensive ground excavations and storage of materials removed, a cut and fill provision, strengthening and diversion of existing underground brick culverts and an unusual mixed pump and gravity drainage system to take foul water up hill.
